Look at the hands in that photo.

It is the last play of the bronze medal game at the 2026 IFAF Flag Football World Championships in Düsseldorf. Overtime. One team is going to the Olympic Games in Los Angeles and the other one is going home to wait.

The ball never arrives. Interception. Game over.

That single frame is the clearest answer we have ever had to the question of why we started making gloves. Not for a shelf. Not for a photo shoot. For the play where everything is on the line and an athlete has to trust their hands completely.

Six teams have their Olympic place

Flag football makes its Olympic debut at Los Angeles 2028, with six men’s teams and six women’s teams.

The United States is in as the host nation, on both sides. The World Championships held in Düsseldorf from August 13 to 16, 2026 released the first four places to be earned on the field: two for the men, two for the women. Italy and Canada took the men’s places. Canada and Mexico took the women’s.

From there, three men’s places and three women’s places are still open, and they get decided at the Olympic Q-Series in June 2028, hosted in Montreal and Orlando.

It is the first time a world championship in this sport doubled as an Olympic qualifier. Every knockout game in Germany was an elimination game for the Games themselves, and it showed in the way teams played.

The level went up everywhere at once

The clearest sign of what is happening to this sport is not who won. It is how hard it got.

The United States men won a seventh world title, beating Italy 46 to 26 in the final. But earlier in the tournament, American Samoa beat them 38 to 32, led by quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa, and handed the Americans their first loss at a world championship since 2012. They had to win their way back through the bracket to reach the final at all.

Italy lost that final and still left Germany with an Olympic place.

On the women’s side, the top eight says the same thing from another angle: Canada, the United States, Mexico, Great Britain, Germany, Austria, Panama, Spain. Sixteen nations entered, and half of the final top eight came from Europe.

It is still a young sport on this stage. Nigeria was entered in Düsseldorf and had to withdraw days before the first kickoff.

Nobody gets to show up and coast anymore. That is the real result of these championships.

Canada’s week

Canada’s women beat the United States 27 to 20 in the final and took the country’s first world title in twelve years. They got there by beating Mexico in the semifinal, and quarterback Sara Parker was named tournament MVP after throwing 23 touchdown passes.

The Canadian men took the harder road. Their bronze medal game against Mexico went to overtime, 34 to 26, decided by the interception in the photo at the top of this article.

Two teams, one country, both qualified. Canada is the only nation that earned a place in both tournaments in Germany.

Why we make gloves

Athletes wearing Invictus gloves competed for Canada, the United States, France, Mexico, Germany, Australia and Austria in Düsseldorf. Seven national teams, one tournament, on the week the first Olympic places in their sport were decided.

We are proud of every one of them. Seeing that many athletes perform at the highest level their sport has ever reached, with our gloves on, is the reason this company exists in the first place.

The bet we made when we built the first pair was simple: a better glove helps an athlete perform. That week in Germany told us the bet was right, and it is exactly what makes us want to keep going.

We did not do anything on that field. They did. We just built the gloves.

What comes next

Three men’s places and three women’s places are still open, and they get settled in Montreal and Orlando in June 2028.

Between now and then, athletes who started playing flag because they loved football are playing for an Olympic place, and teams that used to build a season around one weekend tournament are building it around a qualifier. Whatever level you play at, that standard reaches you eventually.

If you are building a team through this cycle, we would rather help you look and feel like the team you are becoming than the one you were. That is what we do with custom team gloves, in your colours, with your identity on them.

We train the way we play. From now on, everything counts.

It varies, since most national team players choose their own equipment. At the 2026 World Championships, athletes wearing Invictus gloves competed for Canada, the United States, France, Mexico, Germany, Australia and Austria.
